From Dec 4-6, 2023, an incredible exchange of experience unfolded in Poland’s Śląski region as part of the Youth to Community project.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Animus Foundation and Фонд “МХП-Громаді” 58 Ukrainian youth activists into the rich tapestry of five captivating cities in Śląsk: Bytom, Piekary Śląskie, Katowice, Gliwice, and Tychy.
The program was very rich of experiences.
Kopiec Wyzwolenia: Participants explored this significant Polish site, immersing themselves in its cultural significance. The Kopiec Wyzwolenia is a symbol of Piekar and Silesia region. The hill was artificially embanked and it took 5 years to complete. Built in the 1930s by the inhabitants of Piekary Śląskie and neighboring towns, it became a symbol of the struggle for Polishness and a reminder of the battles of the Silesian insurgents during the post World War I period. The participants climbed the hill from which they could see the whole Silesian region, which is a symbolic moment.
MDK2 Piekary Śląskie Youth Center: Workshops on:
– Artificial Intelligence;
– Social Media Publication Creation;
– How to Present Your Ideas and Initiatives.
A special shout-out to Dobrota Egner, the director, for an insightful tour! Participants learned more about the activities and structure of youth centers in Poland.
Volunteer Gala: The activists attended the annual Gala Volunteer dedicated to the International Volunteer Day, where local volunteers were awarded. Meeting with local volunteers and youth activists allowed participants to connect with the local volunteer community. Also participants presented the results of their local projects, which they implemented in Ukraine.
Christmas Market in Katowice: A festive and unforgettable experience that added a touch of holiday magic to their journey.
Gliwice’s Unique Palmierna: A century-old wonderland with rare plants and fish, allowing a glimpse of the biodiversity of flora and fauna that are very difficult to see in the nature of Poland and Ukraine. It features plants from Australia, Africa and America, aquariums with fish from the Amazon basin.
Gliwice Radio Station: A historic site where World War II began, leaving participants with a deep appreciation for its global significance.
Meeting with Kuchnia EkoMniam Foundation in Tychy: Discovering the zero waste ethos and social initiatives like the “Goodness Fridge” showcasing a stellar example of social entrepreneurship.
As we reflect on these active and enriching days, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in this experience exchange. Some of the participants joined in the process of packing food for the “Goodness Fridge”.
